Biography
Luis Alberto Peña has concertized in major venues in Austria, Italy, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panama, Canada and the USA, with equal dedication to the solo, concerto and chamber music repertoire of all periods. He has appeared as soloist with, among others, the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Panama, the Meadows Symphony Orchestra, the UW-Madison Symphony Orchestra, the Camerata Dallas. He has been a prizewinner in piano competitions in Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica and the USA and has received several prestigious awards and scholarships. He has been awarded degrees and multiple honors by the Université de Montréal, the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Southern Methodist University and the Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas (Bogota), where his main teachers were Dang Thai Son, Boris Slutsky, Christopher Taylor, Joaquín Achúcarro and Pilar Leyva. In addition, he has been coached by Evelyne Brancart, Sara Davis Buechner, Luc Beausejour, Uri Vardi, John Perry, Marc Durand, Victoria Chiang, Craig Sheppard, Robin McCabe, Alexander Shtarkman, Horacio Gutierrez, William Sharp, Anthony di Bonaventura, Rolf Plagge, Julian Martin, Arie Vardi, Alfred Mouledous, Benjamin Pasternack, Marian Hahn, Amit Peled, Katherine Jacobson Fleisher, Andres Diaz, Chee Yun Kim, Emmanuel Borok, Alfred Mouledous, Diane Kitzman, Michiko Oshima, Peter Howard and Ludmila Weber. He has also had the privilege to participate in masterclasses with Stephen Kovacevich, Leon Fleisher, Menahem Pressler, Nelita True, Peter Efler, Gabriela Montero, Jaime Laredo, Louis Lortie, Simon Trpceski, Pieter Wispelwey, Roy Howat and the Saint Lawrence String Quartet, among others, and has attended prestigious advanced training programs in Spain, Austria, Italy, Canada and the USA, such as Bowdoin, Orford, Domaine Forget, the Mozarteum Sommerakademie and the Accademia Musicale Chigiana.
