Biography
Vancouver flutist Samantha Fu has been described as a “sensitive player” known for her “strong natural, innate musical sense that the music shines through.” She holds a Masters of Music and Professional Diploma in Orchestral Studies from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and a Bachelors of Music from the University of British Columbia. Additionally, she holds A.R.C.T Performance Diplomas in both piano and flute from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto). Her flute professors and teachers include Camille Churchfield, Sarah Jackson, Lorna McGhee, Donald Peck and Dionne Wells-Jackson. Samantha is active as both a soloist and as a collaborative musician in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia. She is currently a member of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, and has performed as an extra musician with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Island Symphony Orchestra and the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra. As part of her involvement with the local contemporary music scene, she has performed with the Redshift Music Society, and has premiered several new Canadian works as a member of the Ethos Collective. Samantha enjoys sharing her art form through teaching and has taught the flute and piano in Richmond and Vancouver for over 18 years.
