Teaching Statement
When teaching piano, Ashley’s speciality is young beginner students. If they are able to recognize letters in the alphabet and hold a pencil, they are ready to being their musical journey on piano. Classes with young beginners are filled with learning basic musical concepts through games, songs, and fun worksheets.
Clarinet students of all ages and levels have flourished under Ashley’s tutelage. From learning how to make a sound to university auditions, Ashley’s students have successfully accomplished the goals they set for themselves.
Theory is always taken at the pace of the student. Ashley will teach theory classes for the purpose of completing exams, but highly recommends that students practice theory as part of each class. Theory is the basis of all music, and without an understanding of the basic concepts, music is not fully understood.

Biography
Holding a B.F.A in Music Performance from York University, Ashley is well versed in not only classical, but also world music. Playing guitar, accordion, and djembe in ensembles through her schooling, Ashley finds unique ways to teach rhythm exercises and bring ensemble work into her private classes.
Working with Ashley, students’ successfully complete exams when ready, participate in competitions, and can find performance opportunities in their community. Exams are a great way to help students set goals and feel accomplished. Many students choose to participate in Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) exams, however Ashley is also familiar with and teaches to the Conservatory Canada curriculum, including Contemporary Idioms for piano.
